The dual concepts “Eisegesis” and “Exegesis” pertain to the interpretation of text. Just like with thought processes, there are internal and external ways to decipher the world.
Eisegesis is internal. It happens when we interpret something written according to our convenience. For instance, I’ve always facetiously felt that reincarnation has a loophole when it comes to morality. Why should I be punished for physically harming someone if it is also their karma? If everything is karmic, there is no Free Will, and our lives are just predetermined scripts. This absolves me of all responsibility since I’m part of some larger cosmic plan.
Even as I jibe about Mysticism, I do know that the true impetus behind reincarnation is morality. It should help people make conscientious decisions. Hence, Interpreting text according to how you think the author intended it is “Exegesis”
Last but not least, is the term for when you finally figure out your own way to think: “Isajesis”.
